Computers, Poverty, & Prejudice

If I had just followed simple instruction, none of this would have happened. When a web developer who merits 6 figures tells you how to maintain your pc, just fucking do what he says, your life will be easier.

Long story shot: malware. Twice.

Second time around, I decided not to go through my programmer friend who can run malware bytes himself on my pc. Something very bad happened to my dear friend Levi last year...it was not his fault....but he is having a tough time and can be a royal ass....we go back and forth between wanting to kill him and being worried about what he's gonna do next...

A third friend, this one a web designer, recommended his guy. Pricey. So i found an alternative on the net....Sigh.

They had a pickup option, but as their shop was just 3 miles away, I figured it would be more cost effective to just drop it off. Bad bad idea. There are many parts of "downtown" indianapolis. The part their "shop" is located in, is arguably the poorest. I had the web designer friend, Jason, along w me in the car. He wanted to scope them out anyway, for possible future business, as they are cheaper than his guy.

Squalor...does not impart how bad the neighborhood was...tiny dilapidated houses, some boarded up...no yards really, just short patches of brown or weeds...trash all over the place like a hurricane had been through...dead end street...a few large trees its only saving grace...(we decided I had best not return after dark myself. Called one of my best guy friends later to arrange escort if needed.....lol I am not a punk, but I do respect the fact that I am rather petite)

We met the lady I had spoken to on the phone, she was very nice and professional...but I could tell she was speaking without trying to open her mouth much...as some vloggers who shant be named do...when I finally saw her teeth....it was very clear that she had done A LOT of crystal meth...I dont know how she eats...

I will leave the inside of their house out of this. Not necessary. I will say that I didnt see any bugs, and I didnt smell anything out of the ordinary, even cigarette smoke. She has 2 kids, both small. Both seemed happy; not sparkling clean, but absolutely no sign of abuse either physical or mental. Curious lil girl with adorable soft brown curls...

She has one of those new little netbooks and let me see it...it was so neat!! So lightweight! Would make a fab backup in case my pc goes down again.. The only drawback I see with those is that we watch a lot of videos; with those you cant go full screen.

Left my pc there and got a receipt.... I did get a good feeling from her. She had been so perfectly cordial and professional, she was just in very poor surroundings. I decided that I needed to not judge...life can be hell on ppl, you never know what they have been through....for all I know they recently got off the dope and are trying to make a better life for themselves...all the more reason for me to give them business and indeed send them more if the job was properly done. It can be a bitch to get a decent crib w bad credit...or if you have a record....and the economy...so I wanted to give them a chance...

We were a little uneasy when we left...but figured it would be alright...Then last night I started freaking out...I had spoken to her around 7 and she said it might be ready last night...I offered her slightly more cash if they could bring it to me...she didnt call me back last night...

This morning I decided I needed to go get it...I knew it just had to have that thing run on it and that doesnt take forever...she said he had been working on it already, so it not being ready yet made me uneasy...I started considering my possible recourse if they didnt give it back...omg...really started tripping...

Went by myself around ten thirty. Called when I got there, she came out and said she would go get it. I told her I would wait outside. With 2 jugalo looking dudes staring at me a few houses down...grr....had removed my jewelry before I went...so I figured if they robbed me it was ok...

After waiting 20 minutes I called her back...this time she said it was actually fixed and ready...I hadnt brought the cash, not knowing it would be ready...went down block to a VP, got raped fee-wise at their ATM...went back and straight into the house...thankful for knife in purse...

Once again she was all manners...gave me pc and lil card w numbers if i needed to call back. I apologized for being impatient...expressed that I was worried because I didnt know them... and got the fuck out of dodge!

If it hadnt been for the surroundings, the entire exchange would have been pleasant.

Now the pc is working fine...and I am pissed at myself a lil for flipping out....but...I dont know...the situation was def weird.....however, you should not judge a book by its cover.

As long as my pc ends up ok they will be getting a lot more business now...which makes me feel good...

Thoughts? I think that in the future I need to be a lil more cautious but less judgmental? I am glad I didnt say anything to her that would make it awkward for me to go back.
