Something needs to be done about the sock accounts here

I know that for a long, long time it has been the policy of this website to allow just about anyone in. I'm sure you have certain email accounts, and maybe even IP addresses that have been banned on a list. You know it's easy for anyone to obtain new email accounts and hide their IP addresses, so why aren't we doing more about the riff raff that comes to this site and try to cause harm to members of the site? Of course I'm speaking about the recent 'carol' account that was doxxing on Phantom. He hasn't even been here 24 hours and already he's being attacked by a sock account. Had I not seen the blog when I did and made the call to find out that it truly was his dox, how long would of it stayed up I wonder? (Thank you MBD for the prompt removal of the blog, btw.) I know that both MBD and MRB have lives and don't always have time to check the site, but with Phantom here now you may want to do it more often if you have no way of knowing who is behind each sock that wants to be a member here from here on out...just saying.

Comment by Rare on June 12, 2017 at 10:55am: The problem with just posting any video of yourself is that it could be a 'stolen' video of someone else. The video should be time dated the same day a person signs up. An upload from a phone or PC/laptop could be one of the request...I don't know...that sounds kind of an invasion of privacy who only go by avatars and made up names on sites that they comment on (like j for instance). Even though he's been an ass multiple times to me, called me names and insulted my intelligence, I'd hate to think that we'd be keeping 'harmless' trolls from signing up by asking for a video. This is tough. I don't think there's a real solution to the problem without hurting the site itself. I think we just need a better mod. I certainly don't want the 'job' but I don't think Bytes really does either because she's been AWOL for awhile now except for a meme. I'd hate to think that she actually did see the blog post with Kenny's address and did nothing. I mean, c'mon, we all know how she feels about Phantom409.

Comment by Rare on June 12, 2017 at 1:50am: That would work. Though I'd think an original vid would be best. Anyone could share a YT/Vimeo video and say that it is themselves on it. You might ask for links to other accounts on websites like Instagram, Twitter and of course FB too...just an idea. Over on Vloasis, Frank asks that you post a real pic of yourself. Although most people on the site change them once they've been there awhile, which is fine, but I like the idea of a real pic of the person in the beginning. Although, again that can be 'forged'. Whatever you decide is still going to be easy to get around, especially for these career trolls...but we have to try to weed out the riff raff and bots.

Not sure how that can be done though. I notice we haven't had any new members for a few days...that maybe a good thing.
