About this new 'status update' bar/gadget thingy......
So it seems that ning has added a feature which apparently is located by default on the top of everyone's personal profile. If you are still unaware of this new feature, go to your profile and it should be right there in front of your face. And so far it looks like a couple of users (Firewall & Phantom) have already 'tested' it out. I'm not sure what to think of it yet, but after looking it up in the "ning-blog" section and reading through the "specifics", apparently the site creator has an "on/off switch" for this feature as well. I personally think it sounds kinda cool... and I can already see it'll probably get plenty of (ab)use... especially here @ DT.

I'm not a fan of twitter at all to tell ya the truth... but I really don't mind the apparatus being implied here.. it allows you to say whatever's on your mind at the moment without having to add a blog or anything... and then having it show up on the activity feed is cool... I'm not bothered by it yet... if/when it gets abused you can always just turn the thing off. But for those who like to keep their profiles all pretty and customized to their liking, well I think ning should allow the USER to decide whether it's on their profile or not... and perhaps add a couple features that allows them to change the style and color of the widget...as well as where exactly it displays on the profile.

I think they should look into making the thing more "user friendly" and give the personal user the option to keep it or hide it on their page.
