first off, in hindsight i wish i had not even mentioned that she was asian. but i could not remember her name. felt it was important to be descriptive. and i dont know if she was racist. its possible, she certainly was nasty to me for no reason. i was on time and too tired to present her with any difficulty.
now, onto my grooming habits. i understand where ssanf is coming from. in this day and age, money might be in fact better spent. however, i have never considered my nails an extravagance because it is one of the only areas of "fashion" that i have ever been into. i have never really been all into clothes or shoes. my favorite summer shoe is the $3.50 black flip flop from old navy. 2 pair will cover me for a summer. i may buy 2 other pairs, a heel and a color, but really only every few years, as they last so long when rarely worn.
my fav winter shoes? $12 velvet chinese shoes which resemble flat mary janes. again, 2 pair will cover me a season. this last winter i made it thru with one. strappy sandals like i just bought for the wedding? every 4 or 5 years.
my clothes purchases are similar. scant. yes i try to "look cute," but i certainly do not follow trends or fads. never have. well made versatile classics suit me fine.
now nail polish colors, i am into. love them, and the range that can be expressed through them. i am a polish whore LOL!!
as for the comment, "Personally, I do not consider vanity items to be a part of taking care of yourself. I just consider them to be fun. Taking care of yourself would be such things as good nutrition, exercise, rest when needed...." A good pedicure is a part of taking care of yourself. a few of my toes like to get ingrown on the sides. a pedicure every few months, done correctly, takes care of this. pedicures also can help with other foot issues, like callouses and fungus, etc. this practice undoubtedly saves ppl money with regards to podiatry later.
Vanity? not when done year round for foot maintenance, sorry. could make a similar argument for the manicure, but lets not get tedious or anything.
"As far as having discretionary money to have some fun goes, that is a good thing. Fun is always a good thing."
I also am 30 years old now, and do not go out partying that much. A healthy lifestyle can be so CHEAP!! so yes, i can afford getting my nails done. i also tan and get my hair done. all done the most affordable and best way possible. i stay away from the fancy parts of town for these things. you might also consider that i work in a professional environment where appearances do matter.
"You have money that you are willing to spend on manicures and pedicures? Dang! What world do YOU live in?" Um, I live in a world where i work my ass off and dont have a husband or kids to support. i have also kept myself away from debt. never had a credit card. i didnt dare after hearing the horror stories. no student loans, worked my way through. plus my dad died when i was younger and left me a lil. I live in a shit world where i live frugally, and where you have no fucking clue what all i have been through. you also have no fucking clue what all i am am responsible for. if you were trying to make me feel guilty, good fucking luck lol!
i have no comment on your race debate. i truly find such exchanges moot. and no hard feelings ladies.
oh i live in a 2 bedroom apt downtown. my gardening is limited to indoor pots at this stage. so i dont know what you meant here, "You best buy some darned good gloves for gardening. I think some extra heavy duty protective socks in your work boots are in order, too."
when i do get a garden someday, can i use my boots from basic training? or would that offend you as a taxpayer?
**edit: a shout out to koolaidgirl, for her broken lovely pink and whites. i feel you gf...one broken ruins the set, like fine chine or crystal. sigh. good manicurists are hard to find! i hope you get repaired soon kag, may the force be with you!
