manicure-pedicure from hell

this is a review i just posted for a recent trip to a nail salon here in downtown indianapolis. enjoyz:

this was the worst salon experience i have ever had. i received a mani-pedi from the middle aged Asian woman, i cannot remember her name. she began the pedi by scalding my feet. then, as if to be a smart a$$, the water was barely lukewarm after i complained. she was very impatient, not allowing much soaking time for my hands or feet before she dug into my cuticles.

i also did not move fast enough for her. whenever i had to move she was commanding me around the shop. after the massage part of the pedicure, she put some extremely hot wet towel that had been soaking in a crockpot on my legs and feet. i have NEVER had anyone do this before, in nearly 20 years of getting my nails done. there was some lotion or oil on the towel, i now have a rash on my legs. i have a wedding to go to saturday, so much for the new knee-length dress i bought.

she did not buff or sand the surface of my nails down at all; i recently had acrylics removed, and so the paint job was horrid. a little time buffing and they would have looked alright, but she made it very clear that she did not care about me as a client. and i had told her i was looking for a regular manicurist near where i live. she allowed no time between the base, color, and topcoats, just slopping it all on there at once. then she stuck me under the fan instead of the ultraviolets, in an already cold room. oh, and the massages may as well have been done by a corpse.

when i asked her to fix one of her polish mistakes, she got an attitude and made it worse, leaving a blank spot. when i asked her to fix that, again w the attitude. i had had enough at that point, told her so calmly, and left.

not only do i NOT recommend them, i would sue her in court for the rash if i could. i had to go and get my nails buffed and repainted, at added expense. i also have to wear pantyhose and closed toe shoes to the wedding now, so the time and money i just spent buying new strappy sandals was a waste. had to go out and buy the right fucking color hose. this has been such an ordeal, i may see about her license.

Any other race going thru that exp. looks at reality: it's not a "chip" - particularily getting to the part with the spot on the nail she had to ask to get fixed 2x.... by then it's personal. Only someone lily white or on Mars would call looking at factors such as race a "chip". An af amer who gets served on a chipped plate in a restaurant- it often will occur to him/her it may be due to a racist waiter. Someone doesn't hold a door? Maybe because of my race.

Boils down to 2 things: use your common sense: woman has a bad day/life/hates her job ORdecided to consistently treat our blond friend like dogmeat thru her entire stay out of some form of hate. It's one or the other or a combo. of the 2. Were Lea an af amer woman, chances are high she'd be WTF real fast.

as a white, you have the LUXURY of not going there, and it IS a luxury whether you admit it or not. i definitely have better things to do than run around crying racist but if someone treats me like shit i am going to consider the reality of where they might be coming from.

SSanf: It's not all about you.... and your white perspective... i might think like you too had i not had the experiences i had. i don't get the sense you've had much dealings with other races because if you had you'd know racism is a big deal on a daily basis for manymany people in this world. Recognizing racism or bringing it up for discussion does not a racist make!

i think you should be looking at your own negative reaction to my posts rather than pulling out the racism card. i have NEVER ever been accused of being racist & have lived with many races, had boyfriends of other races, etc. I am veryvery intimately familiar with racism having been born & raised & gone to school from day 1 with af amers.
My head is not in the sand- & ive said nothing here anyone who isn't familiar with racism wouldn't think of as a possibility. Reality: people are racist. Nothing you say about it is going to change it. However, TALKING about it & holding people ACCOUNTABLE- like this woman if there are similar complaints on her- DOES stop the pattern. In the meantime, go spend 2 decades in San Fran and get back to me. But I will not tolerate being called out of my name & spoken to like this by someone like you who can't reason. You come off as an uneducated troll at best.

I know how when i'm in a bad mood, i keep it in check around other people... this totally reminded me of some experiences i've had in san fran; well, MANY, put it that way. it would be a hard angle to prove unless you found other similar complaints re the woman/shop somewhere. i assume you've checked their record with the BBB site. also might be a good idea to check around word of mouth with others int he beauty industry in IN. i'm sorry that happened to you. & i'm glad you stood up for yourself. at the least it's incompetence.... & by middle age most women DO know how to do damn nails right....
