Hey guys, just dropping by to say hi.

No I'm not dead... but I don't come on as much as I used to.

What else can I say, work is making me busy...

Anyways, I've had a bit of time to think. This was something completely out of the realm I normally post about, and as per usual, just a casual observation.



Liquor.

So a few things I either forgot to mention, or am now realizing:



1. Pig really smell.... oivey... My friend's uncle slaughter pigs for a living. Occassionally he brings work home, not to slaughter, just for holding. So they're in little bamboo "holders"

Now, I generally wouldn't give two shits about any comments or insults I get from people, naturally I find them funny that they even bother wasting their fucking time on me. But, I do take offense to only a one word insult. It is not original. So, in the last blog, I mentioned going to pay my respects to my friend's ancestor. This time it was not at a cemetary. About a good 30 min. drive from where I'm staying, a drive over to Sun Wan, where I was not too long ago, as posted in another blog, you know, where it was rural, sleepy, and everyone gambles in their spare time? So yesterday, my Easter celebration was done in tradition Chinese fashion, and definitely not celebrating the death and ressurection of Christ.



Given my history with where I am, it also includes a bat-shit aunt that lives near my friend's place. Given it's that time of the year to pay my respects to the ancestors (ie: my Great-grandfather) I had to go the the nearest relative that knows where he's burried and how to pay my respects.

So taking a small walk thru town, in a flea-market-esque area, where people pretty much sell their wares. Clothes, jewellery, crap, animals, veggies, oh, and medicine... kinda.



Herbalism is big here, and since I've grown up with it, wasn't too different for me to see that all sorts of fungi, herbs, and such were on display.



What really got me a little culture shocked was the animals for sale. Now I am not talking about pets, I am talking about food. Chickens, geese, and… Continue

For those wondering about internet here, I'm using a friend's connection, since I'm staying at their place, instead of a hotel... cheaper that way.



In regards to bats, I was reminded that it is the cool season, so the bats aren't as active... so no worries, but they're not coming out till its warmer.

Just to list a few things...



1. Mosquitoes - everytime I don't cover my body completely with mosquito repellant, they find that one little square on my body where I don't cover, and those little vampires suck away. Having a bottle of Witch Hazel helps, more than calomine lotion.



2. lack of predators controlling the mosquito population - I used to see an odd bat here and there, since my last trip. Not anymore. Disturbing...

Anyways, I was invited to dinner over at a relative's place, in the countryside. What made this interesting was the fact that this is the cool season for Southern China, and being a Canuck, it was really comfortable. Typically I'd sweat my ass off when it's hot and sunny, and I generally don't like the heat and like a vampire, I shun the sun. Granted, if I need colour, I do tan, when I feel like it.

So... this trip has got me doing things which I don't normally do things, and that's what pretty much got me started on this part of the blog.
